like a fish in water

It’s official. Everything from the old WordPress.com version of likeafishinwater.com has been moved over to the self-hosted, WordPress powered site. Most of the bugs have been ironed out and aesthetic adjustments are mostly done. It’s been exciting and a little scary to have complete access to the source code for the blog. Customization options are only limited by ability to tinker with CSS, PHP and JavaScript, but you can also break the whole thing with a keystroke. I am going to aim for not breaking things.

Email subscribers from the old site have been migrated. You did miss the previous post while things were in limbo, but should begin receiving emails as usual.

A big pleasant surprise was that WordPress.com offers free legacy support for the followers of the old blog that received updates through the WordPress.com reader. You will continue to see blog updates in the WordPress.com reader (yay!), though the new blog does not support additional followers of this type. If you’re seeing this post in the reader, I would love it if you could drop a quick line in the comments to confirm everything is working.

Last, and by no means least, none of this would have gone as smoothly as it did without the help of WordPress ninja Lissa Patillo (website / @kuriousity). Lissa took care of all the heavy lifting with regard to installation and migration. The peace of mind from handing this to a professional and not taking on the risk of breaking three years of my own content was worth much more than what she asked ^_^
