Welcome to this week’s review of notable instances of public transit use and urban design, as well as discussion of place identity and culture, through anime currently broadcast or screening in Japan and simulcast internationally via the web. This review also documents seichijunrei (聖地巡礼 sacred site pilgrimage) and butaitanbou (舞台探訪 scene hunting)—on this website referred to collectively as anime pilgrimage—which are forms of place-based engagement induced by the use of real locations in show settings.
Media and General Interest
Toyosato tobidashi
@626shin created a photo essay from a day spent in Toyosato, Shiga Prefecture with @METALLUCA666 as the latter repaired several anime character tobidashibōya (飛び出し坊や) and created two new ones.

Episode 11
Jōhana Sakura Line (城端さくら線)
The two new points of interest this week are modeled on real places, but they come from separate locations.
The Sakuragaike Climbing Center (桜ヶ池クライミングセンター) is in Tatenohara-Higashi, Nanto, almost across the street from the P.A.Works studio. [Credit: @touyoko_com, Twitter]
The Sankyoson observation platform (散居村展望台) is in Tonami (砺波), Toyama Prefecture, the city adjacent to Nanto to the east. [Credit: @West_G24, Twitter]
South end of Yōkamachi-dōri (八日町通り) in Inami (井波), Nanto
Inami Betsuin Zuisen-ji (井波別院瑞泉寺)
While there doesn’t yet appear to be a clear real world match for this location, there is a small island with shrine in Sakuragaike that has some suspicious similarities:
