Welcome to this week’s review of notable instances of public transit use and urban design, as well as discussion of place identity and culture, through anime currently broadcast or screening in Japan and simulcast internationally via the web. This review also documents seichijunrei (聖地巡礼 holy land pilgrimage) and butaitanbou (舞台探訪 scene hunting), which are pop culture tourism and place-based engagement induced by the use of real locations in show settings.
Media and General Interest
A symposium commemorating the establishment of the Manoyama Research Association (間野山研究学会) was held on 2018 April 21 in Nanto, Toyama Prefecture. The association takes its name from the fictional city in P.A.Works series Sakura Quest, based on real locations in Nanto, and will examine regional promotion and reconstruction in rural areas through pop culture-induced tourism.
Shirobako and Musashi-Sakai will hold a Spring Festival on 2018 April 28, featuring live talk shows with cast, goods and a stamp rally. Musashi-Sakai is the location of Skip-dōri Shotengai and nearby areas used as settings in the series.
Sankei Shimbun published an article about the boost in visitors to Lake Shibire and other locations in Yamanagshi, Shizuoka and Nagano prefectures resulting from Yuru Camp.

Update 2018/05/01: Redditor subOpticglitch did me a huge favor and tracked down new locations in this episode.
The daytime practice and night diving session take place in adjacent coves along the coast in the Akazawa (赤沢) area of Itō, Shizoka Prefecture, almost at the southern edge of the city limit. In the background of the above frame, you can see the boat launch where the night diving takes place.
The area with the boat ramp is the Akazawa Diving Center (赤沢ダイビングセンター).
The ryokan where the diving club stays is the Tōkaikan (東海館) in Higashimatsubarachō, back up in the center of Itō.
Jury is still out on the rest.
