Welcome to this week’s review of notable instances of public transit use and urban design, as well as discussion of place identity and culture, through anime currently broadcast or screening in Japan and simulcast internationally via the web. This review also documents seichijunrei (聖地巡礼 sacred site pilgrimage) and butaitanbou (舞台探訪 scene hunting)—on this website referred to collectively as anime pilgrimage—which are forms of place-based engagement induced by the use of real locations in show settings.

Fan Pilgrimage Update
@nadukari_h (post) and @habusan (updated wiki) made pilgrimages to Minamiizu, Shizuoka Prefecture for Episode 8.
Based on cuts that appeared in the PV for Episode 8, there was an early theory that the location depicted was the Hatōtsu coast (波当津海岸) in Saiki (佐伯市), Ōita Prefecture. Masonry walls and an obvious map presented in the episode indicate that it’s actually Yumigahama in Minamiizu, but the contour of the mountains seems to be a much better fit at Hatōtsu, to which @fragments_sue (tweet) and @cunqi (tweet) went to investigate.
@flyingbird1124 made a pilgrimage to Yamanashi City and Kōfu, Yamanashi Prefecture for the OP, Episode 1 through Episode 7.
Fuefukigawa Fruit Park (笛吹川フルーツ公園) in Yamanashi City (山梨市), Yamanashi Prefecture
Minamiizu (南伊豆町), Shizuoka Prefecture
